The Mohawk Blues

So today I did my first "teaching" gig at the church... not preaching mind you. It was a Journey Sunday... a Sunday school type format for all of you non Life-Churchers. I talked a.. bit about community. It was hard to get the words out because every bit of salive seemed to leave my mouth and head straight for my sweat glands. Thats right, sweaty and cotton mouthed. I would have liked water, but that would have only sped up the sweating process... so dehydration was basically the best way to go. Oh but wait, you have not heard the best part. A favorite professor of mine decided to sit in MY class, as if having friends in there was not hard enough... my favorite prof, and a theology prof at that.... I nearly wet my pants.

On the flip side, one of the college girls asked me to dye her mohawk blue. In her honor, I will call her Sarah, the girl with the mohawk... (we had a conversation about people on campus referring to her that way... labels be hanged). Anyway, I was given the privilege of painting her faded mohawk a new and brilliant blue. So fun. She did not put it up though, much to my chagrin (definite Jeanette Oke word).

Hair in primary colors for all (that would be yellow, red or blue).

Easter and the Gilmore Girls

So I cannot seem to stop watching the Gilmore Girls... in fact, I now wish to move to a small New England town. I also seem to think it would be ok to walk into the local barber shop and introduce myself to the cute barber. I have been watching way too much of season one. Now I am excited to get season 2... then 3.... then 4.... then 5 and so on.

Easter has come and gone, but it was great. We had a potluck and there were 22 guests plus the 4 roomies that were in town. It was fun. There was ham.

I SCREAM

for ice cream. But wait, there was none. The roomies seem to have eaten it... if you are reading and a roomie... my apologies (there is only one I know of that reads this). But on my way home from the concert, I was thinking about my vanilla fudge ripple in the freezer. Upon my arrival, I saw the carton in the trash. Sadness filled my heart, then anger, then guilt over the anger, then confusion over why I felt guilty, then ... well then I was just tired.... too many emotions in a really short amount of time.

I also screamed at the concert... well shouted... well kind of chanted/ cheered/ speak sing kind of dealio. The Psalters were great, as they were last time. The drumming was super. The vocals were unusual, and the one dude who played like 8 different instruments during the course of the evening was incredible. Two thumbs up. My only critique - deoderant. The Psalters are kind of stinky. Probably in part due to the fact that all 8 of them live on a converted school bus into rock bus.

Ice cream and deoderant for all.

Refills... more like re-rip-offs

Ok, so I was at "the Buck" with my non cell group of girls that I hang out with at the same time and place every week - however, not a cell :-) Anyway, my coffee... a regular drip decaf was gone, I guess I must have drank it all. My friend, we will call her Jess - because that is her name, well- her drink was gone too. So we went up for our "free" refills. Evidently, only "the Bou" does that. We had to PAY MORE MONEY. Only a buck-o-eight more for both of us, but Geez... did they not just rob me an hour ago for the cup to begin with.

I am going to start a coffee shop at my place called GIMME ALL YO' CASH.... I just need to translate it into another language, so people won't be suspicious. Oh wait... that is taken already... its translation is STARBUCKS. And their GRANDE VANILLA SOY LATTE is aramaic for I ROBBED YOU WITHOUT A GUN FOOL! I should be more gracious because my other friends, who we will call Mindy and Erin - again, because those are their names, work at this establishment.

I will cease my ranting a raving now. Ahh.. the day of the rave. Just kidding, I never got into glitter in my jeans and high heeled sneakers (not to mention the extra curricular rave activities like... glow sticks).

I dont believe there is any better way to end this blog tonight than in the words of Ralphie... "The best day of my life was when the doctor said I didn't have worms anymore". Can it be said better than that?

PEACE and Appropriately priced perculated drink (a little aliteration)

younger evangellatin?

How about "Celebration of the Disciplanetarium" or "Practice of the Presents" or "Every Man's Battalion" or ... I have no more. Frankly, I have no reason for the aforementioned mis-titled books... Just too many extra minutes on hand or on mind or something. PAINT FUMES!

I have very little to write about today. My friend Yohannen sang the entire "Copa Cabana" song tonight at house dinner. It is the first time I have ever really heard it. It reminded me of "Fee" by Phish. Same story, different words and tune and a buddhist prodigy.

I am going again on Friday night to see the Psalters. I am really excited about seeing them again. I do not necessarily believe in EVERYTHING they do or say, but I think their premise is somewhat correct.... Americans tend to be greedy and selfish and much of the rest of the world suffers. For instance... right now in Sudan, over 400,000 people have been killed. Maybe its time we stepped in and did something there... I know where we could find a few troops. Anyway, the Psalters challenge popular culture and the Americanized Christianity that says baseball and apple pie, prosperity and patriotism (democrat or republican) are Christian values. This is challenging to think about, to question.

peace and belief systems can withstand question marks.

'Tis the Season

The season for what you ask... for bicycles, what else. It has finally arrived, the warm weather. I rode my bike yesterday to Trader Joe's (the grocery store). On Sunday I picked up my bike from the "shop" as it was getting a tune up and I had an odometer installed on it. Such bicycle fun. So it was exciting to ride it yesterday and know exactly how far and how fast I went. Wahoo.

I also got a much needed haircut this weekend. And as far as I can remember, it is the first time a haircut made me cry. Well, I suppose every female must experience this at least one time in her life. And my hair actually grows pretty fast. So in about 6 weeks, I will be ready for another haircut. Besides, three days later and its starting to grow on me.

Have you ever seen "Everybody Loves Raymond"? It rarely makes me laugh. Sometimes it makes me really mad... you know the wife seems pretty mean sometimes. And no husband could be quite that dumb. Anyway, last night I laughed really hard. It was the episode where they were both holding out to take the suitcase up the stairs... so great.

By the way... if you are a single woman and reading this (I do not know if any of the readers of this blog are...well maybe one or two) there is a great article on line...
